Ura Yakchoe - Ura is a beautiful village set amidst a pristine highland meadow across the Thumsingla Pass. The village has retained its traditional character and holds its own festival that offers an insight into lives of the rural Bhutanese.

The Festival of Ura is about an old woman; sitting outside her house, she had a mysterious visitor, a lama who asked her for a glass of water. While she got inside home and came back with a glass of water, the lama had vanished leaving a sack. Curiously, she opend the sack to find a Statue (relic). Eversince, this relic has been passed on from generation to generation, which is now owned by the descendants of the woman. This festival is organized annually and the relic is displayed to the public. You will see locals dressed in their finest clothes who have walked from miles around to attend the festivities. They come and watch masked dances, pray, and feast. While the underlying purpose of the festival is spiritual, dances are more often like plays, stories where good triumphs over evil and historical events especially encompassing the life Guru Rimpoche.

Client Testimonials & Reviews: -

My husband and I went on a trek in Nepal this past August, and we had a fabulous time. It was truly the most unique, beautiful outdoor travel experience that either of us have ever had. For anyone considering trekking in the Himalayas, we highly recommend Raj Tamang as a guide. His company, Responsible Adventures (www.responsibleadventures.com) and (www.notjusttreks.com), is professional and customer-service oriented.

We were amazed at the ways that Raj and his employees went above and beyond to make this experience memorable for us. Raj is a 'walking encyclopedia' of information about the culture and history of Nepal, and his confident, welcoming nature put us at ease. He was experienced at facilitating positive, genuine interaction between Himalayan villagers and Western trekkers such as ourselves, and that made all the difference in our 10 days touring the Manang valley. His company offers a service that is truly a cut above the rest.

We can't wait for another opportunity to trek with Raj! Feel free to check out our story and pics at www.joshandelise2008.blogspot.com
